Sam Smith and Kim Petras’ song “Unholy” is still making queer music history. The sultry pop track topped the Billboard Hot 100 on Monday, making Smith and Petras the first nonbinary and trans artists, respectively, to reach No. 1 on the singles chart since its 1991 inception.

  1. If this horrible song is #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, I thank Gawd I haven’t heard the other 99. Don McClean was half right – the music has died – it just wasn’t in a plane crash in 1959.

God I HATE that word. Gay (in my case), lesbian, bi, trans or whatever…but NOT queer, OK??!!

‘Queer’ was the derogatory homophobic slur of choice here in the UK throughout my teenage years. All that stuff about ‘reclaiming’ the word is bullshit. Would the LGBT community be happy if the word ‘faggot’ was used instead? No. So let’s fuck off ‘queer’ for good.
