We still need Pride. Very much so.

Some people are calling for an end to Pride events because we supposedly don’t need them anymore. Meanwhile trans women are still being shot, gay couples are being beaten up in public and teenagers are driven into suicide. All in the United States, all just within the last few days.

Others countries are just now having their first Prides and there too it becomes painfully obvious why they’re so urgently needed in this day and age.

The video below shows footage taken after the first-ever Pride march in Kharkiv, Ukraine, the country’s second largest city. It shows a queer boy being slapped, kicked, stomped and chased by an angry anti-gay mob until a courageous photographer steps in to help the teen escape.

  1. I live in the USA where we just recently legalized gay marriage and I still think we need pride events.
Saying that we no longer need pride because we have rights is like saying we no longer need to celebrate the 4th of July because we won the revolution. It is both a celebration of what we have accomplished and a reminder of what we could still loose.

    1. “Saying that we no longer need pride because we have rights is like saying we no longer need to celebrate the 4th of July because we won the revolution.”

      Superb point, well said.

      .

“… reminder of what we could still loose.”

And the best, current example of this beating us in the face — Donald Trump.

And I just can’t comprehend the absolute stupidity of GAY people like horsey defending Trump in any way imaginable.

  2. All the more a reason why we don’t need prides to get kicked, we need guns!
More seriously, the same recipe that works fine in decent civilized countries cannot be used for countries where homophobia is fed and organized by the government itself. You just cannot parade in front of very angry mobs and gay hunters without having a first rate security detail.

I also think prides are necessary in these countries, and it’s really a show of courage rather than stupidity, but IN OUR COUNTRIES? I don’t agree with stuff like BDSM display, it”s a poor mix-up of sexual orientation and identity with sexual practices, it is not relevant, and confuses and muddies the pride messages, even if I know it’s just for fun.

So, where’s the real “Hunting for gayz” video from thejoefrom1993, where he and thealexfrom1994 talk and make out, and then stand up and leave saying “Let’s hunt some gayz”? I can only find a musical version of it on YT now. He published a new video recently by the way.

    1. “the same recipe that works fine in decent civilized countries cannot be used for countries where homophobia is fed and organized by the government itself.” Like the USA, where the Trump government says it is alright to discriminate against LGBT people based upon what god you pray to.

  3. Absolutely horrific watching the homophobic mob attacking the isolated gay teen. The police look on helplessly too I think. Hope he was ok.

  4. Terrifying but confusing video. Is the blonde boy the only gay, being attacked by hundreds of thugs? And the riot police, what are they doing other than running along the street? Are they seen arresting an anti-gay hoodlum? It appears so. This is one of the most frightening clips showing east European homophobia that I have ever seen. Kharkiv, you need to evolve and grow up!

  5. Another country in this planet, that never can bei visited for holidays. Theese homophobic people are no humans, they’re animals! A shame for Europe, a shame!

  6. As in the USA with California being 10,000 years more civilised than the usual culprits, Mississippi, Texas, Alabama etc. It is the same within Europe.
If you’re thinking of a vacation then look at your map. Draw a line – Rome to Venice to Berlin. Any place east of that line is not Europe as you’d like to think of it. Quite the opposite. Distinctly so.
The Snow Princess lives in Scandinavia.
The regular guys remain in Germany, France, U.K. and Benelux.
Fun guys are Latin – Portugal, Spain and Italy.
The rest? Be alert and be very wary.

Don’t get too confused either. The USA is a well defined and well governed country.

Europe still remains nothing but geography.
