I’m not sure how I feel about the music Finish YouTuber Tuure Boelius does… OK, I do know how I feel about it but I’m too polite to say it :p But hey, nothing wrong with a video of two cute guys kissing, right? (If you’d rather check out his butt, have a look at this video instead)

  1. Is it just me, or did Youtube disable their auto-translate caption feature? Or is it only offered on specific videos? I haven’t seen it in awhile. >.<

  2. A question of curiosity:

What does the double-dot accent over the ‘[ä]’ mean? How is the ‘ä‘ pronounced?

    1. It’s a letter on its own. It is not a modified a. That is, it isn’t any longer. A long time ago it was a ligature you used when writing ae, æ (which is how ä is still written in Norwegian, Danish, Icelandic and Faroese). The ligature changed to aͤ (I hope you can see this letter) and then ä.

      Thus: ae -> æ -> aͤ -> ä.

Pronounciation in Finnish: not entirely sure. In Swedish: a bit like in bare (without the b and r sound).

      1. In Swedish pronunciation of the letter “ä” varies by word and likely by dialect.

        1. in word “kärlek” it is like a in “bad”

        2. in word “bäst” it is like e in “best”

        3. in “väg” or “pängar” it is somewhat in between 1 and 2.

In Finnish it is always the variant 1.

Happy to see this video finally here, I posted it in the wonderful “Forums” like a month ago. 😊

  3. Gaah! Finnish camp bubblegum! I though bubblegum had died a well deserved death a half century ago. Cute, though.

    1. I love 60s bubblegum. And the 70s. And 80s heavy metal. And 90s-today alternative rock. And bagpipes with heavy drums. And Elizabethan/medieval. And I dearly love the Baroque. Some classical, but not too much.

But I hate 40s big bands, most of the 50s, all country western, most jazz, all commercial Christmas music, and all of today’s pop and rap.

      Life is good.

      1. “But I hate … all country western,”

I dislike most country & western except for a few classics (like Patsy Cline). But, you just might change your mind when you listen to (and even more so after you see his image!) Vince Mira. He’s from the Seattle area, and was discovered so closely imitating the great Johnny Cash (to the point of getting a nickname of “Juanny Cash” — Tacky, yes, but you need to listen to his voice!). He’s so good his first album was produced by none other than Johnny Cash’s son before he died.

Although he does Cash very well, he’s even better (to my ears) with his own written songs. My personal favorite is Cold-Hearted Woman [live version so you can see what he looked like]:

Mind you, this was in 2008 — He was just 15 y.o. at the time.. I discovered him in just the last couple of months. Give it a listen.

      2. “I love 60s bubblegum.”

One of my favorite “bubblegum” songs of the 60s from the Fall of 1967 is Run, Run, Run by The Third Rail [just one name of several from the same musicians]. I’ve always liked it for its “story.” Give it a listen:

With that one, you can blow some great ‘bubbles’. This was a little-known song along the likes of Words by The Monkees and Heroes And Villians by The Beach Boys.

  4. He opens singing the song title. To me, he enunciates very clearly in his singing, my compliments. I think he has a nice voice, and very nice otherwise. I should to put Finland into my vacation plans. Hope he gives a shout if he comes into my neck of the beach, I would love to be a host. He comes off like an upbeat, fun person in his videos. Big kudos to him for being so out in his music and life, fortunate to live where such is allowed. I would call his genera “dance music”, maybe “pop” but whatever. It is fun music. I would dance to it in a club throbbing with delectable’s.

    1. I have to revisit Tuure who evidently is 17 years. I wonder how involved he is in the music and choreography. Even to get the resources to make such a video about two men is impressive. And to be so out in a small country at his age. Good country.
