Julian Mackay was invited to join the Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Moscow, Russia, after winning a ballet competition at age 11. Then, at age 17, he secured a year-long apprenticeship at the Royal Ballet in London after winning the Prix de Lausanne Medal. Later he became the youngest soloist starting at the Mikhailovsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia.
