    1. @Cpt. Proton:
“There are many languages where nouns and verbs are gender based.”

Very true, particularly the Latin-based (romantic?) languages.

“Huh, English speakers don’t know how “easy” they have it.”

Is that because we, English speakers, eliminated some of this confusion with the removal of gender-based verbs and just left the “gender issues” to nouns and pronouns which make it more “positive” instead of ambiguity? :-)

  1. Before all the trans* people start flinging out words like “respect,” I submit that [you] should first consider human as well as language history. This whole trans*/pronoun issue has only been around 30 years or so [actively] or maybe 50-60 years [passively]. That’s only a sliver of history considering the entire human and language history.

And, do you expect everyone (or anyone for that matter) to approach you and ask, “What is your preferred pronoun?” If not, then take into consideration how all of us (the remaining binary population) have been brought up and taught since babyhood. You could go as far as to say that we (the binary population) have been “indoctrinated” to think of and respond to only male/female nouns and pronouns. I won’t argue with this.

But, now, it’s just confusing on a thinking and conversational level to see a person who looks like a female from the waist up and a male from the waist down; or a near-male from the waist up and female from the waist down. Add to that, hormones to change voices, body hair, skin suppleness, etc. and now many of us can be perceived as “idiots” for not changing our thoughts “overnight.”

    *******************************

This is NOT to say that I’m against other genders, just that we need more education about the differences. Just like it’s taken many decades for [basically religious] heterosexuals to be taught, understand and accept homosexuality and homosexuals, it may take some more time to learn and accept these “new” various genders.

    *********************************

    My thoughts.

  2. OK, I’m going full-retard reactionary on this. I will not submit any longer to radical political correctness. My freedoms of speech, thought, association, and action do not constitute micro-aggression, the attempts of gender-benders to control the vocabulary and the debate, to direct the progress of civilization, and to pervert legitimate consciousness-raising into making me self-conscious is micro-totalitarianism at its worst. Sorry, play the guilt-card on someone else.

If your mind has somehow detached itself from your body, you’re a bona fide, blue-ribbon mental case. Go get you head shrunk. And since your condition is neither a physical handicap or otherwise functionally debilitating, it imparts no obligation on me to accommodate it, linguistically or any other way. If you have a penis, use the men’s room. I don’t care how you feel., or what you think you really are, or ought to be. But know this – if you’re a man and you stroll into the ladies room where my daughter happens to be, you might need a surgeon sooner than you planned – like right now.

Just an aside – one of the reasons for the growing interest in Donald Trump’s candidacy is his disregard for the exaggerated sensitivity that is tyrannizing the debate on social issues. From the lists of forbidden words given to college freshmen, to the idiotic notion that serving ethnic cuisine is somehow cultural ‘theft,’ to banning some Halloween costumes, to the war against Christianity, to Target being pressured into removing gender labels from toys and bedding, to the lies and distortions propagated by Black Lives Matter and the race-baiters, to attempts to redefine illegal aliens as ‘undocumented immigrants’ and a thousand other perversions – We’ve had it, and we’re not going to take it anymore. Socially, we’re not becoming more polite and inclusive, we’re becoming frightened, anxious, submissive and subservient, and if that’s good for you, fine, and may your chains rest lightly upon you.

BTW, internal polling from both the Trump and Jeb! campaigns show higher, and much faster growing support for The Donald among independents and Democrats than even among Republicans. How long that will last is anybody’s guess. (It’s fun being politically well-connected.)

    1. “But know this – if you’re a man and you stroll into the ladies room where my daughter happens to be, you might need a surgeon sooner than you planned – like right now.”

Just HOW would she KNOW that would be a MAN if “he” were in female attire and he did his business in another stall?

A statement like yours, above, is just you putting on your gun holster with nothing to shoot at.

      .

“… to the war against Christianity, …”

That is one of the most over-used bad “jokes” …. there is NO “war” on christianity (i.e. Christmas?), but there definitely IS a war on Atheism by the christians.

      .

“Socially, we’re not becoming more polite and inclusive, we’re becoming frightened, anxious, submissive and subservient, and if that’s good for you, fine,”

Strangely, I can agree with most of that statement.

      1. @Penboy

“”Is that because we, English speakers, eliminated some of this confusion with the removal of gender-based verbs and just left the “gender issues” to nouns and pronouns which make it more “positive” instead of ambiguity? :-)””

Or maybe the English speakers simply couldn’t handle a fuller richer language than English.

“”Just HOW would she KNOW that would be a MAN if “he” were in female attire and he did his business in another stall?””

Maybe this is my “mandar” :-P at work but I’ve see more men trying to look like a woman than men actually look like a woman.

Is if of my own opinion that trans should be coupled with a drag queen so that they can learn how to “become” the woman they are inside them. Most women drool with envy when they look at drag queens and how fabulous they look.

        1. @Old Dan:
“Or maybe the English speakers simply couldn’t handle a fuller richer language than English.”

You dare to suggest or opine that the language of Shakespeare isn’t fuller and richer …. than Latin which is practically a dead language? Shame on you, Canadian!

Just for that, I’m going North and cut down one of your Sugar Maple trees! :-)

        2. @Old Dan:
“Maybe this is my “mandar” :-P at work but I’ve see more men trying to look like a woman than men actually look like a woman.”

As for men, I can agree with that statement — or at least, the men trying to “be” women are more of the “physically masculine types” and not the more natural “physically soft” types.

But, horsey was stating about his daughter, whom I’ll suppose is still young enough to be in school. In that case, it would most likely be a boy dressed and made up as a girl which would make him pass very easily for another girl. :-)

          1. My daughter is 34, but we go out to dinner regularly. Needless to say, a pit-stop is always a part of that.

        1. re: above link

That is great news! Screw that pastor. He needed to be reminded what humanity is all about.

Thanks for that — made my morning!

    2. @horsey:
“If your mind has somehow detached itself from your body, you’re a bona fide, blue-ribbon mental case. Go get you head shrunk.”

That’s rather strange coming from a man who loves penis. How is it you can’t understand that [physical] boys [with a penis and testes] grow up with a higher amount of estrogen going through their bodies and [physical] girls [with a vagina and ovaries] grow up with a higher amount of testosterone going through their bodies?

After all, when you’re with a guy sucking his penis, you’re reacting more to estrogen than testosterone. It’s just that some guys have more of it and experience the “need” to be more like a female and quite often act (whith physical gestures) more feminine. And the “opposite” for more “masculine” girls.

These people are no more mentally “deficient” than you are when you seek out another man for sexual pleasure.

      1. We must agree to disagree. I think they’re nuts, and most of their doctors are quacks too, you can think whatever you want. Don’t bother me with facts, my mind is made up.

But here’s the funny part – scientists in genuine white lab coats, and carrying real clipboards have discovered that due to the increased consumption of overly-processed foods and antibiotic-laden animals, over naturally raised meat and organically farmed produce, testosterone levels in men have dropped nearly 60% over the last 60 years. And yet 97% or so of men are still heterosexual, and as masculine as ever. The role of hormones in sexual orientation is inconclusive, if they have any role at all. It’s more about brain chemistry and other stuff we’re still relatively clueless about.

As we age, and boy have I aged, our testosterone levels decrease even further, and while that may keep me from being “as good as I once was, but still as good as I was, once,” the strength of my attraction to other males has not diminished in the slightest. I ‘check out’ every attractive male I see, and gay porn is a beloved addiction.

        1. Don’t bother me with facts, my mind is made up.”

          That’s right …. I forgot …. you’re religious.

“And yet 97% or so of men are still heterosexual, and as masculine as ever.”

How is it where you are … (or) when you were —- Like, maybe around 1950? Haven’t stopped asking your priest about “true life experiences and facts”?

If that number were anywhere near being “correct,” we wouldn’t have appealed DADT and still not have same-sex marriage throughout all 50 States (plus D.C.).

You religious really need to somehow get on board with more true numbers about hetero — homo sexuality. In America (just one example) with over 320 million, homosexuals number easily over 15% of the population, and I’d peg it at closer to 20% (if not higher).

But I do keep forgetting …… “Don’t bother [the religious] with facts.”

          1. From Wikipedia:

The demographics of sexual orientation and gender identity in the United States have been more accurately studied in the social sciences in recent decades. In the first large-scale government survey measuring Americans’ sexual orientation, the NHIS reported in July 2014 that 1.6 percent of Americans identify as gay or lesbian, and 0.7 percent considered themselves bisexual.[1] In a Williams Institute review based on an June-September 2012 Gallup poll, approximately 3.4 percent of American adults identify themselves as being LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender).[2] An earlier report published in April 2011 by the Williams Institute estimated that 3.8 percent of Americans identified as gay/lesbian, bisexual, or transgender: 1.7 percent as lesbian or gay, 1.8 percent as bisexual, and 0.3 percent as transgender.[3] The 2011 Williams Institute report also states that 8.2 percent of Americans reported that they had engaged in same-sex sexual behavior, and 11 percent reported some same-sex attraction. Studies from several nations, including the U.S., conducted at varying time periods, have produced a statistical range of 1.2[3] to 6.8[4] percent of the adult population identifying as LGBT. Online surveys tend to yield higher figures than other methods,[4] a likely result of the higher degree of anonymity of Internet surveys, which elicit reduced levels of socially desirable responding.[5]

Writing in the opinion section of The New York Times in 2013, Seth Stephens-Davidowitz estimated that roughly 5 percent of American men are “primarily attracted to men”. First, using Facebook data and Gallup poll results, he correlated the percentage of men who are openly gay with their state of birth and residence. Second, he measured what percentage of Google pornographic searches were for gay porn. The first method gave between 1 and 3 percent. The second showed that roughly 5 percent of men search for gay porn in every state. The figure was slightly higher in states considered gay-tolerant than in others.[6]

        2. @horsey:
You sited no less than 3 “studies” ALL WITH TOTALLY DIFFERENT NUMBERS.

That alone should tell you that:

No poll asking who are homosexual/bisexual and who are not will EVER be truthful/factual.

And, using Google searches for gay porn? Give me a fucking break. I’ve personally searched for some types of heterosexual porn and I’m as homosexual as they come as for actual sex (don’t confuse real sex with mannerisms).

What about Bing searches? Or Ask searches? Or any other search engine for their results? How about adding ALL those numbers for “homosexual porn”?

This should show you just how stupid those methods really are. Search results just show CURIOSITY, NOT actual TRUE orientation.

horsey, can’t you at least once use some common sense about this?

          1. Dude, all I did was cut and paste the Wiki article. If you think it’s all wrong, fine. Do your own homework.

  3. Ah god, horselips, that’s enough, what are YOU doing here then, i.e. on this site? Are you aware that you depend on a high degree of tolerance of the humans around you and on a progressed society?
I mostly view/read this blog and comments but here I have to let out that your statement is quite disgusting.
I do not often agree to penboy but I certainly do here, in particular on the Christianity issue… that’s just too ridiculous.
Find yourself a church and dream of your good old times.

    1. My Goodness, what a totalitarian you are! I didn’t get the memo that we all have to think in lockstep agreement on everything, or to be more accurate, in goose-step agreement. We all depend on the things around us, some of us on more of those things and some of us on fewer of them. That’s the immense, incomparable joy of being an individual, and not just another bee in the hive. You are ‘you’ first, and one of ‘us’ last.

  4. Horselips, have you and I been foolish enough to notice that the tail is trying to wag the dog?

PS – adopt the Finnish language if you don’t like genders. Grammatical genders do not equal sex. In French guards are feminine. In German and Dutch girls are neuter. In Latin sailors are transgender – they appear feminine and act masculine. For goodness’ sake just get over it.

  5. When I was in college 30 years ago, I took a Sociology course that discussed many gender issues, and suggested using gender-neutral pronouns such as te (in place of he and she) or tem(in place of him and her). It’s too bad this idea didn’t catch on, or something similar, to address this problem that still exists today.
