I’ll never understand why so many models and photographers strive for expressionless/bored faces… unless most photographers just lack the skill to draw any kind of emotion from their subjects. This beautiful boy would be so much more beautiful with any kind of expression other then that “I’m bored” look on his face…. but that’s all I’ve ever seen in all the pictures I’ve found of him.

Ok, I’ll admit, that stupid “duck face” expression would be worse…. but that’s the only one.

There’s a few reasons why you don’t see facial “emotions” from the models. One is what you stated above.

Another is if the model is being photographed for the first time and it has to be done within a specified time because of either cost or environmental factors, the photographer simply doesn’t have the time or know the model well enough to generate any “emotion” that is unique to that model and would offer some [visual] character.

Another could be that either/both are just lazy or don’t really care for any “personalization” expressed by the model.

Other than being “just lucky”, a photographer needs to really know the model at least somewhat on a personal level to get any expression that could be construed as “fitting” for the model .
