Jonathan is in love with Julie. Unable to gather the courage to speak to Julie, Jonathan formulates a plan to steal her diary, which he believes would reveal to him the way to impress his crush. The plan includes befriending Julie’s brother Charles who is Jonathan’s classmate. Thanks to Charles, Jonathan gets an invitation to a party at their house.

During the party, Jonathan manages to steal the diary, excuses himself and heads home to read it. On one of the pages of the diary, he finds a drawn heart and the name …Jonathan. He is overjoyed until he realises what’s really going on…

  1. ~I’ve loved this short film for years and watched it numerous times without subs but always wished for them. Finally my wish comes true and there are English words to this lovely short French film. la douleur exquise
    😘Thanks Josh!

  2. Leave it to the French to make a gay film with no bullying, no suicide, no mind-destroying shock at the discovery of a companion’s crush, just a momentary surprise and a minor adjustment to be made.

You haven’t seen Hidden Kisses, have you? Even though it’s in Canada, it’s in the Quebec Province which is overwhelmingly French — their language and their culture. The French can and do plenty of bullying against gays. Don’t judge an entire culture/location based on just one short video.

And this video is no bed of roses, either. ‘Jonathan’ accused her brother of stealing a calculator and then he not only steals, but destroys her brother’s diary. And his overly intense “romantic” obsession with the girl? It borders on prepubescent psychopathy with their society’s pressure to find the opposite sex as a ‘sex partner’ at so young an age — just like in America. No, the French have a hold on religious beliefs as well as America and will fight for them through their children at the expense of their children. And this video shows this in spades.

      1. I lived in Paris for 22 years so I know exactly how homophobic the French can be; this was just a reaction to this particular short film and in particular how Jonathan reacts to finding out it’s Charles who has the hots for him. Of course there are other examples from other countries . . . even the U.S. I love DiCarpio’s reaction to being kissed on the cheek by his gay friend when they’re at the piano in “A Boy’s Own Story.”

😘Nothing sweeter! Except maybe Billy’s kiss on the cheek by Michael in “Billy Elliot”, followed later by Billy returning the favor with his kiss goodbye to Michael when he left for London…
    Thanks for the memories!
